The old saying “Give a man a fish: feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish: feed him for a lifetime.” can also be applied to the Word of God: Shine a light of scripture on someone’s path: direct them for a moment. Teach someone to find the light of scripture: They will be able to lead others on the path.We don’t teach to create followers but to create leaders, disciples of Christ who can be used by God to create yet more disciples.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)

To renew one’s mind is to learn to think through a paradigm built both on our confidence of an intimate and assured relationship with Christ won for us on the cross, and our captivation with the bigness of the coming Kingdom made a reality through his resurrection. We renew our minds when we reflect on God’s nature and character, wrestle with the implications of these reflections into every area of our lives, and respond accordingly.

Reflecting, Wrestling and Responding are the three Rs of education ministry at North Point. And, as with all areas of church life, we want our children to be similarly engaged in this process in age-appropriate ways.
