Covenant Friendship: It Is Not Good for a Person to be Alone

We are made in the image of God, and God is a community of three persons. To fully reflect God’s glory, we were created to live in community. One of the ways we experience this communitarian nature of our being is through friendship. A lot has been written on this topic. Friendship is at the center of much of the fiction we read. It has been opined on by philosophers, psychologists, and various other essayists and authors over the centuries. Yet despite our apparent obsession with friendship, these relationships seem to be becoming more and more elusive and shallow in a culture consumed with production and personal achievement. In today’s world, it is possible to have thousands of Facebook friends and still be all alone. In this series, we look at what the Bible says about the essential nature and purpose of friendship.
